We just received a small quantity of original Italian Vetterli Model 1870/87 rifles. All rifles are chambered in the 10.4x47mmR cartridge. These rifles include the rear sight base. These rifles may or may not come with a front sight blade.
The condition is poor to fair overall condition. These rifles have been in storage in Ethiopia for a century. They will have some surface corrosion, surface rust, wear on the metal and dings, dents, scratches, etc. in the wood. These rifles may have cracks in the stock and pitting. Stocks may be completely cracked through near the receiver and/or wrist. May May be missing some parts such as a front sight, sling swivel, barrel band, buttplate, etc. The rifles may or may not come with a cleaning rod. Bores range from poor to good. The rifle bolt may be difficult to open and require further cleaning to be 100% functional. Please note that the sear spring may be broken and the bolt may not stay cocked.

A beautiful old rifle, the bor is clean and clear, all parts present, small crack easily repaired , firing pin was broken, had to figure out a fix , I was able to fix it, left pictures on Google if it helps anyone else , everything can be fixed, thanks dad, thanks to all involved, have a happy new year

My expectations weren’t exactly high when I ordered this, so I was pretty excited when I figured out that the Ultimate Steampunk rifle was actually complete. No missing components and a stock crack that’ll be pretty easy to shore up. The bore looked pretty sketchy until I hit it with some solvent and a hurricane brush. Overall I’m pretty happy. It may actually shoot!

Just git mine in the other day, honestly it really not much worse than my B-grade. All parts are present, the sear spring is broken like the description says. The bore really looks fine, no pitting to speak of and sharp rifling. The stock has a couple minor cracks that will be repaired. I had bought this with the intention of using the rear sight for my B-grade but now I just have another rifle to clean up and find ammo for.

Overall I was really happy with the condition of my rifle. I never could have imagined a nearly 150 year old firearm that sat in a bunker in Africa for the last 100 years to have such clear rifling left. Mine had the same stock crack in the wrist as most of the rifles do in the video which seems to be common field repair but even some of the worst condition stocks ive seen people restore with a little bit of effort on these. The front of the breach was pretty rusted but a lot of scrubbing in kerosone and rust remover made it semi okay. I didnt do a full restoration but id like to in the future. WIth some serious rust removal and a full restoration these rifles can turn out really nice and mine with such nice rifling I think could be a shooter if I ever happen to come across .41 swiss. I think people discredit RTI too much expecting these guns to be perfect expecting them to go out and shoot one of these out of the box (considering there are more of these rifles in the world than the amount of 10.4/.41 swiss rounds that exist I dont even see why so many people care) but if you are mechanically inclined and love firearms history one of these are well worth cleaning up to keep in the safe or over a mantel. Even in the condition they are in you wont regret getting one if you know what to expect considering so much of the surplus in the US isnt being imported like it used to.

Yes…Yes….RTI has come through again! You guys and gals are great. Just received my rifle today and, wow it was just what i ordered. Couldn’t be happier. Well boxed, arrived in just a few days and it all seems to be there. The action feels good and yes, it ‘s a bit dirty but that’s what i asked for. Its going to clean up well as a project and, will be proud to display and shoot it. There are a few more rifles i want and will be ordering again! Thanks a gain for the great experience.

I’ve had extremely poor luck with the C-grade vetterli’s. I’ve purchased five of them, and every single one has cracked, split, or completely shattered stocks. BUT, the rifles themselves have actually been in surprisingly good shape better than even the B-grade examples I’ve seen, retaining more bluing than any other rifle I’ve ordered from RTI. Despite my issues with the stocks, these are great part guns, and if you know wood-working, making a stock yourself shouldn’t be too difficult.
